Enderson Linares, a 29-year-old man, was fatally shot during the early morning hours of September 5, 2026, in Chicago’s West Englewood neighborhood. At approximately 2 a.m., Linares was in the 6500 block of South Laflin Street, the same block where he reportedly lived, when two people approached him. Chicago police said gunfire followed, leaving Linares with multiple gunshot wounds to his body. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office later identified him as the victim.
Police described the two people who approached Linares as known offenders in one contemporaneous account. That report stated that one of the two pulled out a firearm and opened fire. Other police-based reports described the pair as approaching Linares and firing shots. After the shooting, both individuals fled the area in a blue sedan, traveling northbound on Laflin Street. Investigators did not publicly disclose the suspects’ names or physical descriptions, and authorities did not announce what they believed led to the confrontation or shooting.
The killing occurred during a violent Labor Day weekend in Chicago in which a number of people were killed or wounded in shootings across the city. Linares’ death was among the fatal incidents recorded on the South and West sides during that period. Initial reports stated that no one had been taken into custody. A search of subsequent publicly available reporting through September 24, 2026, did not locate an announcement identifying either suspect or reporting an arrest, criminal charge, trial, or conviction connected to Linares’ killing. The case therefore remained publicly unresolved, with the two people who fled in the blue sedan representing the principal suspects described by investigators.
