In the early morning hours of Sunday, September 20, 2026, a night out tragically ended for 21-year-old Jon'nae A. Abbott. Gunfire erupted around 3:30 a.m. in the parking lot of Club O, a nightclub located on Madison Street in Brooklyn, Illinois, a community near Lovejoy. Abbott, described by her family as a loving, kind, and hardworking woman with many dreams, was caught in the crossfire. Her family firmly believes she was an innocent bystander, simply in the wrong place at the wrong time when the shooting broke out.
The St. Clair County coroner confirmed that Jon'nae A. Abbott died from a gunshot wound to the head. Her death was not an isolated incident of violence that morning. Approximately two hours after the shooting at Club O, another fatal shooting occurred just a couple of blocks away at the Bottoms Up nightclub on Fourth Street. In that incident, 24-year-old David I. Small Sr. of St. Louis was also killed by a gunshot wound to the head. The Illinois State Police are investigating both homicides.
As of late September 2026, the investigation into the death of Jon'nae A. Abbott remains open and active. Authorities have not yet publicly identified any suspects or made any arrests in connection with the shooting. Consequently, no charges have been filed, and there have been no trials or convictions. Law enforcement has not officially stated whether the two fatal shootings are connected. The case remains an ongoing investigation as family, friends, and the community await answers and seek justice for the untimely death of a young woman who, by all accounts, was an unintended victim of a violent act.
