Sixteen-year-old Meeyah Smith was shot and killed on the night of July 4, 2025, in Chicago’s Avalon Park neighborhood. Around 11 p.m., on the 1200 block of East 83rd Street, an assailant approached on foot and opened fire on Meeyah Smith and a 35-year-old man. Both were taken to Jackson Park Community Hospital, where Meeyah Smith, a teenage girl, was pronounced dead; the man suffered a gunshot wound to the thigh and survived. Authorities identified the victim as Meeyah Smith, age 16.
