In the early morning hours of August 13, 2026, LaTaivia Davis, an educator with the Everman Independent School District, was on her way to work, a routine commute that tragically turned fatal. As she traveled eastbound on Interstate 20 in Fort Worth, Texas, an encounter with another driver escalated into a deadly road rage incident. Near the Trail Lake Drive and Granbury Road exit, at approximately 6:40 a.m., the other driver pulled alongside her vehicle and fired a single shot, which struck and killed her. First responders arrived at the scene to find Ms. Davis in her vehicle with a gunshot wound; their life-saving efforts were unsuccessful, and she was pronounced dead at the scene. The senseless act of violence left her family, friends, and the community to grapple with the sudden and tragic loss of a woman described as a dedicated church volunteer and a beloved teacher's aide at E. Ray Elementary School.
The Fort Worth Police Department immediately launched an investigation, utilizing witness accounts and crucial evidence from the scene. A significant breakthrough in the case came from a witness's dashcam video, which helped investigators identify the suspect's vehicle. Thirty-seven-year-old Patrick Lawrence was arrested at his workplace in Justin, more than 30 miles from the scene of the shooting, during his lunch break. He stated that she then merged and cut across the white on-ramp markings to get onto the highway. It was at this point that Lawrence admitted to pulling out a 9mm handgun and firing one shot into her vehicle before driving away to his job. The case against Patrick Lawrence is proceeding through the legal system. Following his arrest, he was booked into the Tarrant County jail.
