In the early morning hours of August 22, 2026, a burst of gunfire shattered the predawn quiet in Peoria, Illinois, leaving 26-year-old Malik Pickett with multiple gunshot wounds. The incident occurred around 2:45 a.m. near the intersection of Jefferson Avenue and MacArthur Highway. Responding to the sound of shots and a ShotSpotter alert that registered 20 rounds fired, police discovered the gravely wounded Pickett, who was rushed to OSF Saint Francis Medical Center.
