On a Friday night in Hope, Arkansas, the life of 21-year-old Gabriel Trujillo Garcia of Paris, Texas, was tragically cut short. On July 17, 2026, at approximately 10:45 p.m., officers from the Hope Police Department were dispatched to a residence in the 1000 block of West 7th Street following a report of a shooting. Upon their arrival, they discovered Garcia and a juvenile female with gunshot wounds.

The Hope Police Department's investigation into the double shooting led them to a suspect in early August. On the afternoon of August 6, 2026, detectives arrested 19-year-old Kevin Lozano of Hope, Arkansas. The arrest was made in the 900 block of South Elm Street based on a warrant from the 8th North Circuit Court. Lozano was subsequently charged with one count of first-degree murder and one count of first-degree battery.
Following his arrest, Kevin Lozano was taken to the Hempstead County Detention Facility to await his first court appearance. The investigation into the death of Gabriel Trujillo Garcia remains active and ongoing. While an arrest has been made, the case will now proceed through the initial court proceedings and a review by the prosecutor to determine the next steps in the legal process.
