In the summer of 1982, the life of 64-year-old Florence Elma Doolittle took a sudden and unexplained turn. A widow who lived by herself in Greensboro, North Carolina, Florence was known to keep a routine. Concern began to mount when she missed a scheduled exercise class on June 25, 1982, and failed to meet a friend at a needlepoint shop as planned.
