In the early morning hours of July 29, 2015, the community of Hope, Arkansas, was disturbed by an act of violence that claimed the life of 24-year-old Ivory Conway Jr. Responding to a report of a shooting in the 400 block of East Berry Street at approximately 1:30 a.m., officers from the Hope Police Department made a grim discovery. They found Conway, a Black male, deceased inside a vehicle, having suffered from what appeared to be several gunshot wounds.
The investigation into the death
of Ivory Conway Jr. moved swiftly as law enforcement worked to piece together the events of that tragic morning. By noon on the same day, their efforts had zeroed in on a suspect. A warrant for first-degree murder was issued for 17-year-old Travon Davis, a resident of Hope. Authorities began a search for the teenage suspect, releasing his description and considering him to be armed and dangerous.
The search for Travon Davis came to a conclusion later that afternoon. At approximately 3:00 p.m., investigators with the Hope Police Department, acting on information, located and apprehended Davis in Magnolia, Arkansas. He was taken into custody without incident and subsequently transported to the Hempstead County Detention Facility to await his first court appearance, bringing a swift, though somber, development to the investigation of Ivory Conway Jr.'s untimely death.
