On July 20, 2026, Fuentes Zambrano and two of her colleagues, Dena M. Silcox, 56, and Adam J. Wilwerding, 43, were fatally shot inside the leasing office of the Davern Park Apartments where they worked. The incident that shattered the peace of the Highland Park neighborhood stemmed from a dispute over a modest $65 monthly parking fee.
Friends and family remembered Fuentes Zambrano as a bright and joyful person, known for her laughter and kindness. She had worked at the apartment complex for nearly six years and was a beloved aunt who was deeply devoted to her family.
The suspect in the triple homicide was identified as Tsegaab Ademassu Binessu, a 30-year-old resident of the apartment complex. According to criminal charges, Binessu had become angry after being informed that he could not cancel his garage parking contract.
