On a tragic summer day, July 26, 2026, the life of 19-year-old Justice Faith Wells was violently cut short on Interstate 77 in Mooresville, North Carolina. The young woman, who worked in security for Google, was in a vehicle with her 23-year-old boyfriend, Jkobe Ramseur, when an argument broke out between them. The dispute escalated with horrifying speed, culminating in Ramseur allegedly shooting Wells in the head and then forcing her body out of the moving car into the middle of traffic. Justice died at the scene, her life extinguished in a brutal act of domestic violence.
Following the shooting, Ramseur reportedly turned the gun on himself. He was transported to a local hospital in critical condition from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. While he was sedated and receiving medical care, authorities proceeded to charge him with the murder of Justice Wells. The investigation into the incident revealed a troubled and tumultuous relationship, with a history of domestic disputes in surrounding counties. In fact, Ramseur had been previously charged with domestic violence and assault on a female in December of the prior year and had a history of several weapons charges. Text messages from the weekend of the murder indicated that Ramseur had been pressing Wells about a murder-suicide pact.
The community was left to mourn the loss of a vibrant young woman described by her family as an outgoing, courageous, and selfless individual who was the "guiding light through darkness." Justice was remembered for her artistic, witty, and lively personality, her love for singing, dancing, soccer, and band, and her deep faith as a devoted member of St. Paul AME Church. Her family made the difficult decision to donate her organs, allowing her to save multiple lives even in death. The legal proceedings against Jkobe Ramseur came to an abrupt end when he succumbed to his injuries and died approximately a week after the shooting. With the death of the sole suspect, the criminal case was closed, leaving family and friends to grapple with the senseless loss of a young life full of promise.
