On January 15, 2023, at approximately 5:15 p.m., Mooresville Police Department (MPD) received a call from 39-year-old Derik Thomas Trocke, who reported that he had shot his wife, 39-year-old Annalene Julia Trocke, at their residence on Laurel Glen Drive in the Cherry Grove subdivision of Mooresville, North Carolina. Upon arrival, officers found Annalene deceased from a gunshot wound.
The couple's four children, aged between 1 and 13 years, were present in the home at the time of the incident. Following standard procedures, detectives collected evidence and conducted interviews, leading to the arrest of Derik Trocke. He was charged with first-degree murder and held without bond at the Iredell County Detention Center.
In his initial court appearance, Derik requested a court-appointed attorney, citing unemployment and inability to afford legal representation. Subsequently, reports indicated that he was released on bond. The investigation into the motive behind the shooting remains ongoing, with authorities continuing to gather information to understand the circumstances leading up to the tragic event.
