In the summer of 2026, Shatisha Dade, a 32-year-old mother, was working as a health aide in Buffalo, New York, with dreams of becoming a nurse. Known for her forgiving nature and dedication to her 13-year-old daughter, she was building a life for her family. However, her life was tragically cut short in what prosecutors and her family have described as the culmination of an abusive relationship. In the weeks leading up to her death, neighbors witnessed disturbing warning signs of violence. One neighbor recounted seeing a man, identified as her boyfriend Ramone James, on top of her on the lawn, beating her. Police were called to her home on at least two occasions prior to the fatal incident, including the night before she was killed. Despite these interventions and her family's pleas for her to leave the relationship, Shatisha was described as being scared of her boyfriend, but also in love with him, a dynamic that made it difficult for her to break away permanently.
On the evening of July 31, 2026, police were once again dispatched to Shatisha's home on MacAmley Street, initially for a domestic disturbance call that was quickly upgraded to a shooting. It was Shatisha's own young daughter who made the harrowing 911 call, telling the dispatcher that her mother had been shot. Officers arrived to find Shatisha with gunshot wounds. She was rushed to the Erie County Medical Center, where she fought for her life overnight but ultimately succumbed to her injuries on August 1, 2026. The devastating event left a child without her mother and a family searching for answers and justice.
Following the shooting, a search for the suspect began. Investigators quickly identified 36-year-old Ramone James as the person responsible. Police located and arrested him on August 2nd at a residence on Kefir Street in Buffalo. During the execution of a search warrant at that location, authorities recovered an illegal pistol. James was subsequently charged with second-degree murder and second-degree criminal possession of a weapon. If convicted, he faces a maximum sentence of 25 years to life in prison. The case highlights the tragic outcome of domestic violence, where numerous warning signs and even police intervention did not prevent the ultimate loss of life. As the legal proceedings against Ramone James move forward, the community and Shatisha's loved ones are left to mourn a woman remembered as a devoted mother with a beautiful spirit, whose life was taken too soon.
