William “Billy” Maurer, a 54-year-old man, was fatally shot on the morning of June 28, 2026, inside a home in the 3000 block of Spruce Avenue in the Glenside section of Abington Township, Pennsylvania. At approximately 11:00 a.m., Abington Township police officers were dispatched to the residence after a 911 caller reported that a shooting had occurred.
When officers entered the home, they found Maurer dead from a gunshot wound. His 28-year-old nephew, Brandon Maurer, was also discovered inside the residence suffering from what investigators determined was a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Emergency personnel transported Brandon to Jefferson Abington Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at approximately 11:39 a.m.
A joint investigation conducted by the Montgomery County Detective Bureau and the Abington Township Police Department determined that William and Brandon had been involved in an argument shortly before the gunfire. According to authorities, the dispute escalated when Brandon shot his uncle and then turned the weapon on himself. Investigators recovered a firearm belonging to Brandon at the scene.
Several other family members were reportedly inside the residence when the violence unfolded. None of them were physically injured. The home and surrounding portion of Spruce Avenue were secured as detectives processed the location, collected evidence and reconstructed the sequence of events. Early emergency radio reports incorrectly suggested that the two men were brothers, but authorities later clarified that William was Brandon's uncle.
The Montgomery County District Attorney's Office classified the incident as a murder-suicide. Brandon Maurer was identified as the person responsible for William's death, but no arrest was made and no criminal prosecution followed because Brandon died from the self-inflicted injury shortly after the shooting. Authorities did not publicly disclose what prompted the argument or whether there had been any earlier conflict between the two relatives.
