In the early morning hours of May 18, 2017, the life of Robert Earl Ford III, a 34-year-old Black male from Wilkinsburg, was tragically cut short. Ford was discovered inside an apartment building on East Hills Drive in Pittsburgh's East Hills neighborhood. A woman entering the building made the grim discovery and immediately contacted the authorities.
When police and paramedics arrived at the scene around 3 a.m., they found Ford with at least one gunshot wound to the stomach.
Despite the efforts of first responders, he was pronounced dead at the scene. Investigators quickly determined that his death was a homicide.
The initial investigation into Ford's death showed that he had been shot inside one of the apartments. Police secured the area and began their search for clues and a potential suspect. At the time, authorities stated they were working to develop a description of the person or persons responsible for the shooting and urged anyone with information to come forward. Despite their appeals to the public for assistance, no arrests have been made in the case, and no suspects have been publicly identified.
