In the early morning hours of July 2, 2026, the Springfield, Missouri community was shaken by a tragedy that unfolded in a parking garage at Mercy Hospital. Jacqueline Ecton, a 59-year-old dedicated caregiver at the hospital, was arriving for her shift when her life was cut short in a shocking act of violence. At approximately 4:50 a.m., Springfield Police responded to reports of a shooting at the hospital's parking garage on East Cherokee Street.

Inside the parking structure, officers found Jacqueline Ecton critically injured with a gunshot wound.
