Just before midnight, in the parking lot of the Otro Pedo Sports Bar on East Braker Lane, gunfire erupted, shattering the holiday atmosphere. Austin Police officers responded to reports of a shooting at approximately 11:48 p.m. and discovered two victims.
One was Antonio Cleveland, a Black male, found on the sidewalk just outside the sports bar.
Both Cleveland and the second victim were rushed to a local hospital for medical attention. While the other individual was treated for non-life-threatening injuries, Cleveland succumbed to his wounds and was pronounced deceased at 12:29 a.m.. The preliminary investigation by APD Homicide Detectives suggested that an unidentified suspect shot both Cleveland and the other male in the parking lot before fleeing the scene. The motive behind the altercation that led to the fatal shooting remains unclear to investigators. In the days that followed, the scene of the shooting was transformed into a memorial, adorned with candles, balloons, and photographs left by grieving family and friends who gathered for a vigil to honor his memory.
As of now, the person responsible for Antonio Cleveland's death remains at large. Austin police are actively investigating the case, which has been marked as the city's 32nd homicide of 2026. No suspects have been publicly identified, and no arrests have been made in connection with the shooting. Investigators are urging anyone who was in the area that night or has any information, photos, or videos of the incident to come forward. A reward of up to $1,000 is being offered for information that leads to an arrest. Cleveland's mother, Sharamie Robinson, has made an emotional public plea for answers, describing her only child as a fun-loving young man who enjoyed sports and tutored other kids.
