In the early hours of July 8, 2026, the quiet of Yazoo City, Mississippi, was broken by the sound of gunfire. Police were called to 1st Street around 12:30 a.m., where they discovered the body of 26-year-old Tagii Nellums. Nellums had been shot in the midsection, and his death was immediately investigated as a homicide. The community was left to grapple with the violent end of a young life, as authorities began the arduous task of piecing together the events that led to the fatal shooting.
