Ashley Nicole Koonce, a 27-year-old woman from Athens, Texas, tragically lost her life on February 22, 2020. She was found dead in the front yard of a residence in the 1600 block of County Road 3722 in Athens, with multiple gunshot wounds. Ashley was a mother of three children.
The investigation into her death led to the arrest and charging of her estranged boyfriend, Dameon Tarrel Williams, who was 31 years old at the time. Williams turned himself into authorities and was subsequently charged with Ashley's murder. He was later found guilty of the crime and sentenced to 50 years in prison. Williams received 773 days of credit for time served in the Henderson County Jail.
Ashley's family revealed that she had been trying to escape an abusive relationship with Williams. On the day before her death, she had taken her three children to her mother's house for safety. Unfortunately, Williams followed her and shot her the next day.
The case highlighted the serious issue of domestic violence and the tragic consequences that can result from it. The sentencing of Williams to 50 years in prison brought some measure of justice for Ashley and her family, although nothing can truly compensate for the loss they have endured.
