On May 28, 2026, the life of 38-year-old Shelsy Solis Sosa was tragically cut short in what Brownsville police have described as a murder-suicide. Officers responded to a Holiday Inn located in the 600 block of Sunrise Boulevard at 12:34 p.m. after hotel staff discovered the bodies of a man and a woman in a room. Both individuals were found in a bed with apparent gunshot wounds to their heads. A firearm was recovered at the scene.
The investigation into the circumstances surrounding the deaths is ongoing.
Authorities identified the man as 39-year-old German Navarro Lopez and confirmed that he and Shelsy Solis Sosa were in a relationship. Evidence uncovered by the Brownsville Police Department suggests that Navarro Lopez shot Solis Sosa before turning the gun on himself. This has led investigators to treat the case as a murder-suicide, with Navarro Lopez being the sole suspect in Solis Sosa's death. As the only suspect is deceased, there have been no other arrests, and the case will not proceed to a trial for conviction or sentencing.
Shelsy Abigail Solis, as she was also known, was a mother to five children: Bryana Solis, Dayana Solis, Yael Solis, Dylan Solis, and Isis Daryana Solis. She is also survived by her mother, Ana Maria Sosa Salas, and her siblings, Ricardo Solis Sosa, Cesar Raul Solis Sosa, and Aylin Uresti. Her father, Ricardo Solis Cordova, preceded her in death. Her family remembers her as a great daughter, sister, aunt, mother, and friend whose memory they will treasure.
