In the late hours of a Sunday night in North Philadelphia, the sounds of a house party near Temple University's campus were pierced by the eruption of gunfire, leaving 19-year-old Hyvear Zayzohn Tookes fatally wounded. On May 31, 2026, police were dispatched to the 1700 block of North 16th Street around 11:15 p.m. after a ShotSpotter notification alerted them to the gunshots.
