Jackson Berry, a 31-year-old man, died on June 1, 2026, after a violent confrontation outside a home in Peoria, Arizona. The incident unfolded early that Monday morning in the Vistancia area, near Vistancia Boulevard and Ridgeline Road, when police were called around 5:30 a.m. after reports of gunfire. When officers arrived, they found Berry suffering from both gunshot wounds and stab wounds in front of the home.
Neighbors and witnesses had already stepped in to try to help him, and officers took over lifesaving efforts before he was rushed to a hospital. Despite those efforts, Berry died from his injuries.
Investigators said the violence began as a verbal dispute between Berry and the suspect. What started as an argument escalated into a deadly attack, leaving Berry shot and stabbed outside the residence. Authorities did not publicly disclose the full reason for the dispute, and police said the circumstances surrounding what led to the confrontation remained under investigation. Early reports described the incident as isolated, and police said there was no known continuing threat to the public.
After the attack, the suspect fled the Peoria neighborhood in a Chevrolet Malibu. Peoria police used license plate readers and their Real Time Crime Center to track the vehicle as it traveled away from the northwest Valley toward the Payson area. Officers in Payson attempted to stop the car, but the suspect did not immediately surrender. A short pursuit followed before the vehicle crashed.
The suspect then ran from the crash scene on foot. During the foot pursuit, authorities said he suffered a self-inflicted gunshot wound and died at the scene. Because the suspect died before he could be taken into custody, no arrest was made in connection with Berry’s killing.
Police later identified the suspect as 25-year-old Jet Durdan Berry. Investigators said Jet Durdan Berry was Jackson Berry’s nephew. Authorities have not reported any additional suspects, and no other arrests or charges have been announced. The case was still described as an active investigation as police continued working to understand the events that led to the fatal confrontation between the uncle and nephew.
