In the early hours of May 5, 2026, the quiet of a Fort Wayne, Indiana neighborhood was shattered by a violent act that claimed the life of 49-year-old Ali Gyi. Emergency responders were dispatched to a residence on the 4500 block of Bowser Avenue around 1:20 a.m. following reports of a disturbance. Upon their arrival, they discovered Gyi inside the home, unresponsive and suffering from a gunshot wound to the head. Despite the efforts of paramedics, he was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The Allen County Coroner's Office later confirmed that a gunshot wound to the head was the cause of death.
The investigation into Gyi's death quickly focused on a suspect, identified as 47-year-old Ya Sin. According to court documents, the shooting occurred after a card game, during which Sin, his wife, Gyi, and at least one other person were present. Witnesses informed investigators that Sin, who was reportedly prone to jealousy when drinking, became enraged. His anger was apparently directed at his wife for sitting next to Gyi, whom he disliked. This jealous rage culminated in Sin shooting Gyi in the head. Following the shooting, Sin allegedly forced his wife to leave the residence with him and made threats to kill both her and himself.
Law enforcement located and arrested Ya Sin shortly after the incident. He is facing a series of serious charges, including murder, kidnapping, and resisting law enforcement while fleeing in a vehicle. The investigation was initially complicated by a language barrier, which required the assistance of an interpreter to gather accurate information from witnesses. The Fort Wayne Police Department's Homicide Unit, Crime Scene Unit, and Air Support Unit were all involved in processing the scene and collecting evidence. The case against Ya Sin is now proceeding through the legal system, with the initial evidence pointing to a tragic and senseless act of violence born from jealousy.
