In the spring of 2026, the life of 20-year-old Mysun Jones was tragically cut short in what authorities have described as an act of gun violence in Enfield, North Carolina. On the first of April, events unfolded that would end in the young man's death and lead to a dramatic high-speed chase across county lines.
Following the shooting in Enfield, law enforcement was on high alert.
Deputies in neighboring Nash County soon spotted a red Kia that matched the description of a vehicle connected to the fatal incident. When they attempted to pull the car over, the driver sped off, initiating a dangerous pursuit. As the chase escalated, word came through that the Enfield shooting had indeed been a homicide.
The chase came to a crashing end in Nash County, where the two occupants of the Kia abandoned the wrecked vehicle and fled on foot in an attempt to evade capture. A search ensued, and law enforcement successfully located both individuals. The driver, identified as Clarence Atkins Jr., was discovered hiding underneath a mobile home. A K-9 unit later found the passenger, Marian Hodge III, concealed in the attic of a nearby abandoned house.
Both Clarence Atkins Jr. and Marian Hodge III were taken into custody and are being held at the Nash County Detention Center. While the investigation into the death of Mysun Jones is ongoing, authorities have indicated that both men could face additional charges in connection with the homicide.
