On the evening of April 2, 2026, in Indianapolis, Indiana, a disturbance inside a residence in the 4700 block of Leisure Manor tragically escalated, ending the life of 24-year-old Xavier Derryl Brown-Douglas. Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department officers responded to a report of a shooting at approximately 10:45 p.m. and discovered Brown-Douglas with gunshot wounds.
Though initially reported to be in very critical condition, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Homicide detectives began an investigation into the events that led to the fatal shooting, which they believe stemmed from a fight between two individuals. A person of interest was detained by officers at the location of the incident. However, after consultation with the Marion County Prosecutor's Office, the individual was subsequently released. As of the following morning, no charges had been filed in connection with the shooting, and no arrests have been announced. The investigation remains ongoing, and authorities have encouraged anyone with information to contact the IMPD Homicide Office or Crime Stoppers of Central Indiana.
Xavier Derryl Brown-Douglas was born on November 28, 2001, in South Bend, Indiana. Remembered as a loving and compassionate person with a big heart, he was known for putting others before himself. After graduating from Washington High School, he briefly attended the University of St. Francis before deciding to serve his country in the Army Reserve National Guard. More recently, he had returned to college to pursue licensure in HVAC and electrician work with aspirations of entrepreneurship in real estate. Described as a gentle giant, he had a passion for family, faith, music, weightlifting, and boxing.
