In the spring of 2026, a violent altercation in a Rochester, New York, neighborhood tragically cut short the life of 50-year-old William Lundy. On the evening of Thursday, April 9th, a large fight, reportedly involving about a dozen people, broke out near the intersection of Saint Paul Boulevard and 2nd Street in Irondequoit. During the brawl, Lundy was shot in the upper arm.
Initially, first responders found Lundy in a life-threatening condition, and he was rushed to Strong Memorial Hospital for treatment. For five days, he fought for his life, but succumbed to his injuries on the evening of April 14th. His death was then investigated as a homicide.
In the immediate aftermath of the shooting, police arrested 26-year-old Armon Benefield. He was initially charged with first-degree assault in connection with the shooting. However, following Lundy's death, the case was presented to a grand jury.
The grand jury handed up an indictment against Benefield, upgrading the charges to second-degree murder and a gun crime. The community was left to grapple with the senseless violence that had ended a man's life during a street fight.
