On a Thursday afternoon, April 9, 2026, the life of 33-year-old Rashaun Hopkins, a Black male, was tragically cut short by gunfire on the Upper West Side of New York City. The shooting took place just before 5 p.m. in front of an apartment building at 53 West 104th Street, between Columbus and Manhattan avenues. Hopkins, a resident of the nearby NYCHA Frederick Douglass Houses on Amsterdam Avenue, was only a few blocks from his home when he was shot multiple times in the chest.
