In the late afternoon of a summer day in Harlem, tragedy struck. On Monday, July 14, 2025, just before 5 p.m., 42-year-old Abede Fernandez, a resident of Flatbush, Brooklyn, was gunned down in front of 235 Lenox Ave., between West 121st and 122nd Streets. Emergency services responded to a 911 call and found Mr. Fernandez with multiple gunshot wounds to his torso and back.
He was rushed to NYC Health + Hospitals/Harlem in critical condition, but his injuries proved to be fatal, and he was
pronounced dead at the hospital. The broad daylight shooting sent shockwaves through the neighborhood, leaving residents and authorities searching for answers. The New York City Police Department is actively investigating the homicide.
As of now, the shooter remains at large, and no arrests have been made in connection with the killing of Abede Fernandez. The investigation is ongoing as police continue to seek information from the public to help identify and apprehend the person or persons responsible for this brazen act of violence.
