In the early morning hours of a Saturday in Hell's Kitchen, a verbal dispute tragically escalated, leaving 35-year-old Sharief Jackson fatally wounded. The incident occurred around 3 a.m. outside his apartment building on West 49th Street. Jackson was discovered with two gunshot wounds to his torso.
When first responders arrived, Jackson was conscious and alert. He was quickly transported to a nearby hospital for medical attention.
Despite the efforts of medical personnel, his condition worsened, and he was later pronounced dead.
According to police sources, the shooting stemmed from a verbal argument with an unidentified male. It is believed that Jackson and the suspect did not know each other prior to the altercation. Following the shooting, the suspect fled the scene and remains at large. Authorities have not released a description of the shooter.
In the immediate aftermath, heavily armed police officers entered the apartment building with the belief that the shooter might still be inside. However, their search did not result in any arrests. Detectives are continuing to investigate the homicide and are canvassing the area for video footage that may provide a glimpse of the perpetrator.
