Johnny Bingham, a 71-year-old man from Jackson, Mississippi, was found dead after a shooting on April 11, 2026, inside a home in the 1000 block of Branch Street. What began outside the residence as an argument between two other people turned deadly when Bingham, who was not described as the person at the center of the dispute, tried to step in and calm the situation down.
Police said the confrontation involved 40-year-old Bryant Grays and another individual at the home.
As the argument continued outside, Bingham attempted to deescalate it. Investigators said Grays produced a firearm and shot Bingham inside the residence. When Jackson police officers arrived, they found Bingham suffering from a gunshot wound inside the home, and he was pronounced dead at the scene.
After the shooting, authorities said Grays fled from Branch Street. Officers later found him hiding underneath a house on Palm Street, where he was taken into custody without incident. Police arrested Grays and charged him with murder, as well as possession of a firearm by a felon.
