On the night of Friday, April 17, 2026, a fatal shooting outside a convenience store in central Lubbock claimed the life of 37-year-old Jonathan Trevino. The incident occurred at 10:36 p.m. in the 5900 block of Avenue P, where police responded to a report of shots fired. Upon their arrival, officers discovered Trevino with a severe gunshot wound. He was quickly transported to University Medical Center by EMS, where he was later pronounced dead.
While some accounts state his passing occurred on April 18, 2026, the shooting itself took place on the 17th.
The investigation into the shooting led to the arrest of 41-year-old Tommy Rios. Surveillance footage from the convenience store reportedly shows Rios confronting Trevino as he exited the establishment. According to police records, Trevino attempted to walk away and ignore Rios, who then followed him and ultimately shot him. Following the incident, Rios was taken into custody after a SWAT raid and is being held on a $300,000 bond.
