A gathering on a Saturday night in Danville, Virginia, turned tragic on April 18, 2026, ending in the death of Christopher Darnell Moore, a 34-year-old man. The violence erupted around 11:36 p.m. in the 700 block of Arlington Road, where numerous people had congregated at a residence. The sound of multiple gunshots shattered the night, prompting several calls to the police.
When officers arrived at the scene, they discovered Christopher Darnell Moore lying in a driveway with a gunshot
wound. Paramedics administered life-saving aid before rushing him to the SOVAH Danville emergency room, but his injuries proved fatal. In the midst of the initial police response, four other individuals wounded in the shooting were transported to the same hospital by private vehicles. The surviving victims, all from Danville, included a 48-year-old man, a 33-year-old man, a 25-year-old woman, and an 18-year-old woman, all of whom were treated for what were described as non-life-threatening injuries.
Investigators have determined that the shooting was not a random act of violence and that the investigation remains active and ongoing. Authorities have appealed to the public for assistance, specifically requesting that anyone with surveillance cameras in the Druid Hills neighborhood near Arlington Road or with any information regarding the incident contact the Danville Police Department.
In the course of their investigation, the Danville Police Department has made two arrests in connection with the fatal shooting. Darryl Maurice Newby, a 26-year-old from Danville, faces charges of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, reckless handling of a firearm, and discharging a firearm in a public place. Additionally, a 16-year-old male was arrested on multiple charges, including malicious wounding, shooting at a car with malice, shooting or discharging a firearm in a public place, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, reckless handling of a firearm, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, and possession of a firearm under the age of 18. Police have indicated that further arrests and charges may be forthcoming as their investigation continues.
