Rome Ward, a 21-year-old from Buffalo, New York, was brutally murdered on August 1, 2007. His body was found in a vacant house on Townsend Street, and it was clear from the condition of his remains that he had been subjected to torture. Ward's head was nearly decapitated, and several of his fingers had been removed. Police believed his death was connected to gang activity, with strong suspicions pointing toward the Camp Street Gang.
