In the neighborhood he had known his entire life, a place of familiar faces and the backdrop to his childhood, 24-year-old Paul Cobb was fatally shot on the evening of March 30, 2026. The Cobbs Creek section of Philadelphia became a scene of chaos and sorrow when a masked individual inside a white vehicle opened fire into a crowd gathered on South 60th Street near Delancey Street. The shooting, which erupted around 8:40 p.m., not only claimed Paul's life but also that of his childhood friend, 24-year-old Naasir Boyd. Both men sustained gunshot wounds to the chest and were pronounced dead at Penn-Presbyterian Hospital.
The hail of bullets also struck three other men. A 36-year-old man was critically injured with a gunshot wound to the stomach, while two other men, aged 35 and 54, were shot in the leg and were reported to be in stable condition. Paul, known affectionately as "PJ" to his loved ones, was one of six children and lived with his family just blocks from where his life was tragically cut short. His mother, Tiffany Thurston, remembered him as a son, brother, uncle, and cousin who was deeply loved. She recalled that he had been on his way to visit her at the time of the shooting.
In the wake of the violence, the Philadelphia Police Department's homicide unit launched an investigation, canvassing the area which is lined with both city and private surveillance cameras. Despite the public pleas from Paul Cobb's grieving family for any information that could lead to an arrest, authorities have not yet publicly identified any suspects or made any arrests in connection with the deadly shooting. The family is left to mourn and grapple with the sudden and violent loss of a young man who was born and raised on the very block where he died.
