In the early afternoon of April 3, 2026, a verbal dispute in the 7800 block of Scenic Highway in Baton Rouge escalated into deadly violence. Roderick Williams, a 41-year-old man, was shot multiple times. Emergency services were called to the scene around 3:00 p.m., and Williams was rushed to a local hospital for treatment. Despite the efforts of medical staff, he succumbed to his injuries.
The Baton Rouge Police Department immediately launched an investigation into the shooting.
Detectives from the homicide unit began canvassing the area for witnesses and any available evidence. Their work led to the identification of two individuals believed to be involved in the altercation and subsequent shooting.
Within two weeks of the incident, authorities made arrests in connection with Williams' death. On April 15, 2026, police took 20-year-old Jaylynn Shampine and 24-year-old Daveon Anderson into custody. Both were subsequently booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison on charges of second-degree murder. It was noted by law enforcement that Anderson had a prior criminal record, which included arrests for motor vehicle theft and criminal property damage. The investigation into the circumstances that led to the fatal argument is ongoing.
