In the early morning hours of a November day in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, a violent encounter tragically cut short the life of Frederick Matthews. On November 17, 2016, the 45-year-old man was with a friend, having just left a bar in the 4100 block of Plank Road. It was approximately 1 a.m. when their path was crossed by two unknown men who brandished handguns and demanded their money.
In a desperate attempt to escape the sudden and terrifying robbery, Matthews tried to flee.
However, his attempt was met with a fatal gunshot to his mid-section. After he was shot, the assailants proceeded to rob him before disappearing into the night. When law enforcement arrived at the scene, they found Matthews on the ground, succumbing to his wound.
The Baton Rouge Police Department immediately launched an investigation into the homicide and robbery. The suspects were described only as two Black males.
