In the early hours of a Friday morning in Austin, Texas, the life of 35-year-old Joshua Williams, a Black man, was cut short by gunfire. On April 3, 2026, at approximately 12:42 a.m., Austin Police Department officers were dispatched to the 10900 block of Brazoria Lane in the northwest part of the city after receiving a report of shots fired. The 911 call was made by Williams' girlfriend, who tragically reported that her boyfriend had been shot.
Upon their arrival at the scene near The
Cottages at Northwoods apartment complex, officers discovered Williams with evident gunshot wounds. Despite any potential life-saving efforts, his injuries were too severe, and he was pronounced dead at the scene at 1:09 a.m. The case is being investigated as a homicide, marking the city's 18th of the year.
As of now, no arrests have been made in connection with the shooting, and the suspect or suspects remain at large. Homicide detectives and crime scene specialists are actively working on the case. They have made a public appeal for assistance, asking residents in the surrounding neighborhood to share any video footage they may have from between 11:30 p.m. and 1:00 a.m. on the night of the incident. Investigators believe the person or persons responsible may have driven around the neighborhood while attempting to flee the scene. The direction of their travel is currently unknown. A reward of up to $1,000 has been offered for any information that leads to an arrest.
