On the evening of April 5, 2026, a large gathering in the 2700 block of West 70th Street in Shreveport, Louisiana, was shattered by gunfire. When police and emergency responders arrived at the chaotic scene in a parking lot, they discovered 25-year-old Jerquavious Johnson Jr. of Bossier City suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He was rushed to Ochsner LSU Health Hospital by the Shreveport Fire Department, but tragically succumbed to his injuries at 11:37 p.m.
Another individual was also reported to have been injured during the incident.
The Caddo Parish Coroner's Office later officially identified Johnson, and his death was recorded as the fifth homicide in Shreveport for the year 2026. The shooting was part of a troubling surge of violence in the city, which saw three homicides within a nine-day span in April. In the days following the incident, concerned community members gathered at the location of the shooting to clean the area and support one another in the wake of the violence.
In connection with the death of Jerquavious Johnson Jr., authorities arrested Valentino L. Carter Jr. He has since been charged with second-degree murder. The investigation into the shooting remains ongoing as detectives continue to piece together the events that led to the fatal encounter.
