In the early hours of a Tuesday morning in DeKalb County, a heated argument shattered the predawn quiet, leaving a man with fatal injuries. The victim was 50-year-old Tywarn Jones. The dispute took place in the 5500 block of Marbut Road, where Jones was shot and seriously wounded. Following the altercation, a witness at the scene took Jones from the location of the shooting and drove him onto Interstate 285 southbound. Near the Glenwood Road exit, the witness stopped and called for help.
DeKalb County Police Department officers responded to the call around 3:06 a.m. on April 7, 2026, and found Jones with grave gunshot wounds. He was quickly transported to a nearby hospital for emergency medical treatment. Despite the efforts of medical personnel, Tywarn Jones succumbed to his injuries and passed away. The DeKalb County Medical Examiner's Office later confirmed his identity.

Two days after the fatal shooting, on Thursday, April 9, 2026, an arrest was made in connection with the death of Tywarn Jones. Anessa Burton, a 45-year-old woman, was taken into custody and booked into the DeKalb County Jail. She has been charged with murder in the death of Tywarn Jones. The investigation into the circumstances that led to the deadly argument is ongoing.
