In the evening of April 7, 2026, a 20-year-old woman named Imani Ringgold was tragically killed in a burst of gunfire on the 5900 block of Market Street in West Philadelphia. She had just started a new job as a home health care worker only two weeks prior and was on her way back to work after grabbing a slice of pizza. At the time of the shooting, she was on the phone with her grandmother, who horrifyingly heard the gunshots erupt. Imani didn't even have a chance to scream.
She was an innocent bystander, not the intended target of the violence that unfolded. Just days before her life was cut short, she had received the exciting news of her acceptance into community college, where she planned to study HVAC.
The Philadelphia police have determined that the shooting was a targeted attack, but that Imani was mistakenly caught in the crossfire. Investigators believe that due to her proximity to the scene, she was likely mistaken for someone within the intended group. The incident, which also left a 55-year-old woman and a 24-year-old man injured, involved three shooters who exited a dark-colored Mazda and opened fire. A second vehicle is also believed to be connected to the suspects. After the shooting, the gunmen got back into the Mazda and fled the scene. Imani was rushed to Penn Presbyterian Medical Center, where she succumbed to her injuries.
Authorities are now searching for four suspects in connection with the homicide. Two of the men have been identified as 26-year-old Mustafa King and 21-year-old Zaire Manning, both of whom are now wanted for murder. The other two individuals involved have not yet been identified, and police are asking for the public's help in locating all four suspects. A significant reward is being offered for information that leads to an arrest and conviction in the case. The U.S. Marshals Service has also offered an additional reward for information leading directly to the arrest of Zaire Manning, who is considered to be armed and dangerous. As the investigation continues, a family is left to mourn the senseless loss of a young woman who was just beginning to build her future.
