On the afternoon of April 10, 2026, Richard Carter, a 49-year-old male from Valley Stream, was fatally shot in the Jamaica neighborhood of Queens, New York. The incident occurred around 2:21 p.m. at the intersection of Merrick Boulevard and Sayres Avenue, just outside The Greater Allen A.M.E. Cathedral of New York. Carter was in attendance at a funeral service at the cathedral when he was attacked.
