In the early hours of a Sunday morning in East New York, chaos erupted inside a building on Alabama Avenue that neighbors say was being used as an underground music venue. Amidst what was described as a party, gunfire shattered the atmosphere, sending attendees scrambling for safety and leaving a scene of scattered personal belongings in their wake. When police responded to reports of a shooting at approximately 4:10 a.m.
on March 15, 2026, they discovered 24-year-old Jayden Smith with a fatal gunshot wound to his torso.
Emergency medical services transported Smith, a resident of Canarsie, to Brookdale Hospital, but his life could not be saved. Two other individuals were also taken to the hospital with injuries they sustained while trying to flee the chaotic scene. Investigators at the scene recovered two shell casings and began reviewing security camera footage from the area.
