In the late hours of March 22, 2026, a dispute inside a car in La Plata, Maryland, turned deadly, ending the life of 27-year-old Bradrick Michael Wells. An argument broke out between Wells, who was in the front passenger seat, and the driver, Dayton James Webber, also 27. The verbal altercation escalated tragically when Webber allegedly shot and killed Wells.
Following the shooting, Webber pulled the vehicle over near Radio Station Road and Llano Drive. He asked the two passengers in the backseat to help him remove Wells's body from the car. The witnesses refused, exited the vehicle, and immediately sought help, flagging down La Plata Police Department officers at approximately 10:25 p.m. to report the homicide. Webber then fled the scene with Wells's body still inside the car.
The search for Wells came to a somber end nearly two hours later when a resident in Charlotte Hall, about 10 miles away, discovered a body in their yard on Newport Church Road and called 9-1-1. Authorities responded and confirmed the deceased was Bradrick Michael Wells. The investigation quickly led to the identification of Webber as the suspect. Detectives were able to track his vehicle to Charlottesville, Virginia, over 100 miles from the scene of the crime.
Webber was located at a local hospital in Charlottesville seeking treatment for a medical issue. Upon his release, he was arrested by the Albemarle County Police Department. Webber, a professional cornhole player and a quadruple amputee, is being held as a fugitive from justice and is awaiting extradition back to Charles County. He faces charges of first-degree murder, second-degree murder, and other related offenses. Authorities have stated that all the occupants of the car were known to each other and that they believe Webber acted alone.
