In the late hours of a Wednesday evening in Quincy, Illinois, a call reporting a burglary at a residence near 8th and State streets would end in tragedy. Responding to the call on March 4, 2026, Quincy police officers arrived to find 56-year-old Shane C. McDermott unresponsive, having suffered a gunshot wound.
