In the early morning hours of March 8, 2026, the life of 26-year-old Demetria Ingram was tragically cut short in Wilmington, North Carolina. Just before 1:30 a.m., the sound of gunfire pierced the night on Dawson Street. Officers, alerted by a ShotSpotter activation, arrived at the 1300 block of the street to find Ingram suffering from a gunshot wound.
Despite the immediate response, her injuries proved fatal.
The Wilmington Police Department swiftly launched an investigation into what they initially described as an isolated incident. Their efforts, led by the Gun Crimes Unit and Criminal Investigation Division, quickly pointed to a suspect. Within days, on Wednesday, March 11, 2026, an arrest was made in connection with Ingram's death. Marvin Lorenzo Singleton, a 46-year-old resident of Wilmington, was taken into custody.
Singleton faces a series of grave charges, including first-degree murder, possession of a firearm by a felon, and a parole violation. At the time of the incident, he was on parole for prior convictions. Following his arrest, Singleton was held without bond at the New Hanover County Sheriff's Office Detention Center.
