On the evening of March 8, 2026, in Pasco, Washington, 38-year-old Danny Garett Engstrom was fatally shot. The incident occurred at approximately 10:30 p.m. at a gas station located on 4th Avenue. When police arrived at the scene, they discovered Engstrom near the gas pumps with multiple gunshot wounds to his chest. He was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Franklin County Coroner's Office.
Engstrom, a father and a YouTube streamer known as "Danny Stranger," had been livestreaming
for several hours that day. Prior to the shooting, he left his residence to go to the nearby gas station to buy snacks, leaving his livestream running. Moments after he left, gunshots could be heard on the broadcast, followed by the sound of sirens. Viewers of his livestream, initially unaware of what had transpired, grew concerned when he did not return, with some piecing together the events by listening to police scanners.
According to reports, three men were present at the gas station when the shooting occurred. They later claimed to have acted in self-defense, alleging that Engstrom had drawn a gun on them. As of now, investigators have not confirmed this account, and no arrests have been made in connection with the shooting. The investigation remains active.
Family members described Engstrom as a person with a big heart who, despite struggling with his mental health and a quick temper, cared deeply for others. His niece expressed doubts about the self-defense claim, stating that Engstrom disliked guns and was not legally permitted to own one. However, another individual claimed to have been harassed by Engstrom, describing him as a danger to himself and others.
