In the early morning hours of February 7, 2026, the life of 28-year-old Eric Alex Short Jr. was tragically cut short in Weldon, North Carolina. A resident of nearby Roanoke Rapids, the young man's body was discovered lying in a roadway on East Eleventh Street at approximately 3:26 a.m.

When deputies from the Halifax County Sheriff's Office and Halifax County EMS personnel arrived at the scene, they confirmed that Short was deceased. Preliminary observations indicated that he had sustained ...
