On the night of September 23, 2024, at approximately 10:45 p.m., Halifax County deputies responded to reports of gunfire near the 900 block of Washington Avenue in Weldon, North Carolina. Upon arrival, they discovered 48-year-old Lamar Arvelle Lashley lying in the roadway beside a bicycle, having sustained multiple gunshot wounds. Emergency Medical Services pronounced him dead at the scene.
In the subsequent investigation, authorities identified two suspects: 29-year-old Dashan Taylor and 23-year-old Tyquan Brown, both residents of Weldon. Warrants for first-degree murder were issued for their arrests, with both men considered armed and dangerous. The Halifax County Sheriff's Office cautioned the public against approaching them and sought assistance in locating the suspects.
On November 14, 2024, U.S. Marshals apprehended Brown in Franklin, Virginia, without incident. He was taken into custody and awaited extradition to Halifax County to face charges related to Lashley's death. As of that date, Taylor remained at large, with law enforcement agencies continuing their efforts to locate and apprehend him. The community was urged to provide any information that could lead to his arrest, emphasizing the importance of public cooperation in resolving the case.
