On September 24, 2023, at approximately 5:00 p.m., Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department (CMPD) officers responded to reports of a shooting in the 2500 block of Eddington Street, located in west Charlotte. Upon arrival, they discovered 18-year-old Caleb Thompson suffering from a gunshot wound. Emergency medical services transported him to a local hospital, where he was pronounced deceased.
Preliminary investigations indicated that Thompson was shot during an altercation.
Detectives have identified a suspect; however, as of the latest available information, no arrests have been made, and the suspect's identity has not been publicly disclosed. CMPD continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident and has urged anyone with information to come forward.
Caleb Thompson, born on June 28, 2005, in Charlotte, North Carolina, was a recent graduate of Phillip O. Berry Academy of Technology. He had a passion for technology, often engaging in gaming, music production, and culinary arts. At the time of his passing, he was furthering his education in HVAC studies at the Charlotte Area Fund. He is survived by his mother, Charde' Thompson; father, Cedric Jackson; siblings, grandparents, and extended family. Funeral services were held on October 7, 2023, at Grier Funeral Service - Memorial Chapel, followed by interment at Oaklawn Cemetery.
