In the early evening coolness of a spring day in Buffalo, New York, the life of 22-year-old Matthew D. Smith, an African American male, was tragically cut short. On April 6, 2013, at approximately 7:20 p.m., gunshots echoed in the vicinity of 98 Rodney Avenue, leaving Smith with fatal wounds from which he would later succumb.
