On the night of December 31, 2025, in Tamarac, Florida, the life of 16-year-old Orlando Wedderburn was tragically cut short. First responders were dispatched to a residence in the 7900 block of Northwest 71st Avenue around 10:10 p.m. following a report of a shooting. Upon arrival, they discovered the young male suffering from a gunshot wound. An adult female at the scene was also treated for a minor graze wound.
Paramedics airlifted Wedderburn to Broward Health Medical Center in critical
condition. Despite the efforts of medical staff, he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased. The Broward Sheriff's Office Homicide Unit immediately launched an investigation into the circumstances that led to the fatal shooting at the teenager's own home.
At the scene of the incident, deputies detained an adult male for questioning. This individual remained at the residence after the shooting and was cooperative with the authorities. During the investigation, he claimed that he had acted in self-defense. After providing his statement and a preliminary investigation, the man was released.
As of now, no arrests have been made in connection with Orlando Wedderburn's death. The investigation remains active and ongoing. Once detectives have concluded their work, the case will be handed over to the Broward County State Attorney's Office, which will make the final determination on whether criminal charges will be filed in the matter.
